Rush Golf Club

rush golf club

Rush Golf Club, founded in 1943 is a links course with panoramic views of Lambay Island and Dublin Bay. The links of Rush Golf Course is located in the middle of some of the most famous and best links territory in the entire golfing world, let alone Ireland. Ivan Morris, in his book ‘Ireland’s Best 9-Hole Golf Courses’ described Rush Golf Club as one of the Top Three 9-Hole Links in Ireland. He also rated the 5th hole as ‘well worth the time and effort of crisscrossing the Country to play, describing it as ‘having a feel of Royal Lytham & St. Anne’s about it’. With a new Clubhouse built in 2002 complementing the natural contours of the course, the bar and restaurant offer a friendly and comfortable setting with views of the 1st and 9th holes. Rush is one of the few clubs that has been fortunate enough to keep its old world charm; and as a links, it is playable all year round.

D.P. Gymnastics Club was established in 2002 in Donabate Portrane Community Centre. In 2010 we expanded our club and moved to a full time facility in Rush. This allowed us to offer better facilities to our members and increase our membership. In October 2014 we began classes in Flemington in our state of the art premises in Balbriggan Retail Park (beside PJ’s). This facility is 7500sq ft and we have adapted this facility to cater for our needs and allow us to further expand our club and provide new exciting equipment such as pits and trampolines.

Hockey

Portrane Hockey

St Ita’s/Portrane Hockey Club has been in existence for almost a century. Indeed there is evidence that hockey was first played in Portrane by women, and the club has a team photograph from 1919 of a mixed Men’s and Ladies Hockey Team outside the front of St. Ita’s Hospital. The Club gained formal recognition when they entered the Men’s team into the Leinster league in 1919 following the Great War. Between 1919 and 1937 the club played in the Leinster Hockey Junior Leagues steadily climbing up the Leagues. In 1937 Portrane won the Irish Junior Cup and gained senior status in the same year. They have maintained their senior status until the present day albeit Senior 2, having been relegated from Senior 1 in the season ending 1997.

Fingal Orienteers membership is drawn mainly from North Dublin city and county, Co. Meath and Co. Louth. Membership is open to everyone, whether they are interested in orienteering as an elite international sport, an adventure sport, or an excuse for a family day out in the woods and hills.

Membership fee is €20 per family or per adult individual. The membership is now a once off fee, not an annual membership, since the TIO newsletter is no longer published and distributed to members. As a club member you get IOA membership, reduced fee at most events, and ability to enter the Irish Championships. Also the club usually pays for club relay team entries and subsidizes things like juniors travelling to international competitions, members attending orienteering related courses. There is a special membership of €10 for juniors who’s parents are not members. Please contact any of the people listed here, or send us an email.

You can also email us at fin@orienteering.ie

Club meetings are held usually at 6 to 8 week intervals. We have started rotating the meetings between members houses. Watch the news page for dates. Social meetings are also held after club events at a convenient hostelry.

We also have a number of members who are keen hill-runners.

Sailing

RushSailing

WHO ARE WE?

Rush Sailing Club was founded in 1954 by a group of passionate local enthusiasts who built their own boats and launched them off the beach. Still passionate about our sport, we can now boast superb facilities, while proudly maintaining the volunteering spirit and sense of community that has got us where we are!

COME AND JOIN US!

Our primary aim is to promote sailing and water sports in general, including motor boating, rowing, diving and kayaking. While new members will require a proposer and seconder on the application form, please do not hesitate to contact us if you have no contacts already and we will arrange for members to meet you. Alternatively, just call in anytime the club is open and ask for a committee member. The bar is open on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings; check the sailing schedule for activities.

COMPLETE BEGINNER?

We have a variety of club dinghies for training, and run regular courses for beginners in the summer, so there is no need to buy your own boat to get started. We also have a ‘Just Sailing’ programme for those who are not fixated on racing! Our rowing section is also always looking for recruits to row in their beautiful traditional racing skiff!

WANT YOUR CHILDREN TO TRY SAILING?

We have a thriving junior section, which runs training courses, including ten-week courses on Tuesday and Thursday evenings every spring. At least one parent/guardian of a participating child is required to join the Club as a member. We also host an annual ‘Try Sailing’ open day.

GOT A BOAT ALREADY?

For cruisers and motor boats we have a magnificent gated and serviced boat park, where boats and trailers can be stored for an annual fee of €27 per metre. Craning in and out is organised co-operatively, with a crane hired in at the beginning and end of the season. Dinghy storage is available in the Clubhouse Yard.
